Episode 20: Identity Theft

Tech.mt - December 9, 2021 - 0 comments

Identity theft is the crime of using someone’s personal identifying information such as name, address, date of birth, social security number, username, passwords, phone number, e-mail or credit card numbers, and using this information to pretend to be that person in order to commit fraud.

To protect from identify theft:

  1. When entering any personal information on a website ensure that the connection is encrypted – i.e. the site URL starts with HTTPS not HTTP.
  2. Never send confidential information over e-mail
  3. Be vigilant of fake e-mails and phishing e-mails that try to steal your identity
  4. Do not store your credit card or personal information on untrusted websites.
