Incident Response is the methodology that an organisation uses to respond to and manage a cyberattack.
Incident Response aims to limit the damage and recover from a cyberattack as quickly as possible. Investigation is also a key component in order to learn from the attack and take any necessary precautionary measures that would avoid similar events in the future.
Incident Response includes several stages, including:
- preparation for incidents;
- detection and analysis of a security incident;
- eradication and full recovery; and
- post-incident analysis and learning.
Having an Incident Response Plan helps to reduce downtime, maintain public trust, have targeted security monitoring, avoid penalties and remain in compliance.
